This year in review is a little shorter than the last few, primarily because it consists of whatever I could do outside of work, having and raising a baby, and buying and managing a house—all of which took most of my time and energy. But here, roughly in chronological order, are some highlights from my trip around the sun:
- Got to see Karamo Brown speak
- Took stock of my favorite newsletters, podcasts, and notetaking apps
- Documented my favorite films of 1999
- Rehabbed an Olympia SM4 typewriter
- Had a baby (this is worth at least 7 more bullet points)
- Started a journal about said baby (now 10.5 months old)
- Got a shout-out in the latest Over the Rhine album
- Started the This Is My series, which thus far includes my couch, jacket, wallet, pocketknife, and backpack
- Hosted another type-in at one of my favorite bookshops
- Bought a house (also worth like 7 more bullet points)
- Hosted friends and family for cookouts, brunch, and an autumn party
- Took Taekwondo lessons through my local park district
- Took my son on his first pontoon ride in Madison, which he loved
- Moved into a new position at work, which sent me to St. Louis for a conference
- Enjoyed vicariously revisiting Lost
- Kept up my ongoing Recent Views and Media of the Moment series
- Did not keep up my personal journal that well, but want to do better next year
- Chronicled my favorite movies, books, albums, and TV shows of the 2010s
- Wrote some good blog posts, like:
- Watched 62 movies and read 24 books
